This pivotal Contracts Manager role involves leading the successful execution of External Works for clients across the North Bristol to Cheltenham region. Key responsibilities include overseeing the operational delivery of diverse Capital contracts within the Stroud and Cheltenham areas. You will be instrumental in instilling a sense of ownership and accountability within your teams, ensuring projects are completed on schedule and within budget. Leading by example, you will motivate, incentivize, and develop a direct labor force, including apprentices, reflecting our belief in internal growth. This position also involves managing recruitment, onboarding, and induction processes for new team members. Maintaining paramount health and safety standards will be a core focus, ensuring robust measures are implemented and consistently monitored. You will also be responsible for ensuring all necessary resources, including subcontractors, plant, and materials, are effectively allocated. Building strong internal and external relationships is crucial, encouraging close collaboration between commercial and operational teams for successful contract delivery. Furthermore, you will be expected to review site reporting, generate accurate progress reports, and implement corrective actions as needed, all while efficiently managing your time to uphold productivity and maintain updated procedures and documentation.
Experience & Skills
* Extensive experience in a dedicated Contracts Management role, specifically within capital works delivery, construction, or property services sectors within the UK.
* Demonstrable expertise in the administration and management of complex construction contracts, with an in-depth, practical understanding of NEC3/4 and JCT suites.
* Proven track record of successfully overseeing projects from inception to completion, ensuring strict adherence to contractual terms, budget, and delivery timelines.
* Experience engaging with public sector clients, local authorities, or large-scale private sector organisations on significant capital investment, refurbishment, or maintenance programmes.
* Exceptional commercial acumen, including advanced capabilities in financial management, cost control, value engineering, and strategic procurement.
* Highly developed negotiation, influencing, and dispute resolution skills, with a focus on achieving commercially advantageous and mutually beneficial outcomes.
* Proactive and strategic approach to risk identification, assessment, and mitigation within contractual frameworks.
* Outstanding written and verbal communication, capable of articulating complex contractual nuances clearly and concisely to diverse stakeholders.
* Meticulous attention to detail for reviewing, drafting, and managing all contractual documentation and correspondence.
* Proficiency in relevant contract management software and advanced use of Microsoft Office Suite.
* Strong collaborative instincts, fostering robust relationships with clients, subcontractors, legal advisors, and internal teams.
